About New Orleans

New Orleans, the Crescent City, the Big Easy -- whatever you call it, there's no other place like it.  Layer upon layer of mystery, nostalgia, romance, and history emanate from the old world architecture, drip from the canopy oaks, and permeate the senses.

There are so many ways to enjoy the city, its attractions, and its people.  On a purely sensory and hedonistic level, there is the food, the music, and the tourist-oriented fun.  Dig deeper and you find a culture and history so improbable and complex that it would remain fascinating even after a lifetime of study.  It's a place where funerals start with traditional gospel music and end with jazz (accompanied by "second line" dancing in the street).  Life must go on -- and in New Orleans, it goes on like nowhere else.

New Orleans boasts some of the finest restaurants in the world and some of the seediest "hole-in-the-wall" eateries, all delicious.  You can enjoy all kinds of music, whether at Preservation Hall, at Pat O'Brien's, a bar, a festival, or on the nearest street corner. This is a walking city, and you can visit most of its attractions and neighborhoods on foot -- or by streetcar, carriage, or pedicab.  (Taxis and Uber, of course, are also available.).

The conference hotel is within walking distance of just about everything you'd care to see during a short visit:  The French Quarter, the World War II Museum, Harrah's Casino, the Mississippi River and Riverwalk, Riverboats, the Warehouse District.  You can also catch a streetcar near the hotel which will take you along beautiful St. Charles Avenue to the Garden District, Uptown, Audubon Park, Audubon Zoo, and Tulane and Loyola Universities.  A different streetcar will take you to City Park (one of the most beautiful public parks in the United States) and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

The organizing committee has arranged a special package of discount coupons especially for attendees at this conference.  You will receive discounts on attractions, tours, and restaurants upon your arrival.
